Pro Con Construction Building 408,560-s/f Distribution Center for F.W. Webb
AMHERST, NH - Construction is underway for F.W. Webb's new 408,560-s/f-"state-of-the-art"distribution center located on a 42 acre site on Northern Boulevard.
Pro Con Construction of Manchester, New Hampshire is the construction manager for the project and PCI Architecture is the project architect. When completed, the building will be the largest distribution warehouse in New Hampshire.
The central warehouse will consist of 330,840-s/f of high bay pallet rack storage, 63,520-s/f of parts storage and 26 loading docks for shipping and receiving. The facility will also include 14,200-s/f of office space.
When the distribution center is operational, all transactions for shipping and receiving will be paperless, utilizing bar coding to improve efficiency. Purchasing will be done using electronic data interchange with most vendors, the computer-to-computer exchange of business data, allowing a "hands-off" computer transaction that requires no human intervention. Most vendors will also be utilizing vendor-managed inventory for controlling inventory requirements.
The F.W. Webb Company is the oldest supply house in the industry, dating to 1866, and is the largest distributor of plumbing, heating, cooling, and piping products in Northeast. Currently, the company's distribution warehouse is based in Merrimack, NH and the company's fleet comprises more than a dozen rigs, making daily deliveries to more than 60 branch locations throughout New England and New York.
Site work on the project began in August and the steel frame is currently being erected. Pro Con Construction has scheduled a Spring 2004 completion date for the design build project.
